This year’s Clio Cloud Conference has just wrapped up. There were a lot of exciting happenings, including the release of the 2017 Legal Trends Report, winner announcements for our newly-minted customer recognition program, and much more.
We also announced some big changes to Clio itself, and we’re excited to talk about some of them here. The team has been working incredibly hard over the past year, and we’re proud to share the one of the biggest leaps forward in legal tech with you.
We’ve got a lot to cover, so this month’s update is is an extra-long special edition. Here’s what’s included:
- Clio’s new App Directory
- API v4 (and Launch//Code, our $100,000 app developer contest)
- Additions to our mobile apps
- A peek at the new Clio experience
We hope you’re as excited as we are!
New App Directory
This month, we’ve launched the first integrated app directory for a legal practice management platform.
With Clio, all the information you need to manage your practice is in one place. Whether you’re looking to connect Clio with tools you already use, or whether you’re looking for something new to help you manage your practice more efficiently, our new, easy-to-use directory makes it easy to find the tools you need and connect them to Clio.
Clio integrates seamlessly with over 70 leading apps including Google, Box, Zapier, and Microsoft Office 365, so the possibilities are endless.
Bonus: We announced 12 brand new Clio integrations at the Clio Cloud Conference. See them in the App Directory.
New API, Launch//Code, and the $1 million Clio Developer Fund
New API
Clio is more than just practice management software—it’s a platform that brings together all the tools you use to manage your practice, and recent developments have helped make that platform even more powerful.
An Application Programming Interface, or an API, defines how different programs interact with each other, and a more robust API means a greater ability for powerful tools to integrate directly so that those using them can access everything they need in one place.
Clio is now running off of an updated API that has greatly expanded the ways that other programs can work with Clio. With our new API v4, developers will be empowered to build even more impressive integrations with Clio, giving you powerful options to personalize Clio for your practice and manage your practice even more efficiently.
Launch//Code
With API v4, we envision that new, useful Clio integrations will start to come online at an exponential rate. To jumpstart that, we’re putting on Launch//Code, a contest made to find the most creative, powerful, and useful integrations for Clio. The winning company or business will take home a $100,000 prize, so tell your developer friends to apply!*
The Clio Developer Fund
Finally, as additional support for the creators of amazing Clio integrations, we’re also launching the Clio Developer Fund, a $1 million fund that will be used to assist new Clio partners in the development and marketing of their integrations.
We’re out to transform the practice of law, for good, and we believe that building Clio as a central platform with innovative integrations will give you the tools you need to elevate your practice.

Updated mobile apps
In the mobile era, you need an app that lets you truly manage your practice from the palm of your hand. To that end, we’re always aiming to improve Clio’s mobile apps, and based on feedback from lawyers and legal professionals like you, we’re rolling out several improvements to our iOS and Android apps:
iOS Timer added to Global Create. You can now start logging time quickly and easily from anywhere within our iOS app, as the Timer is now accessible via the Global Create menu.
New Timer Widget for Android. Clio’s Timer Widget can be saved directly to your Android phone’s home screen. While the majority of your work might take place deep within the app, the Timer Widget makes it easy to capture and keep track of time without even opening the app.
Simply add the Timer Widget to your home screen (here’s how you do it) and start capturing and keeping track of your billable time on the go.

#NewClio is coming
After over 600 hours of customer interviews, over 60 days spent on-site at law firms, over 4,000 customer survey responses reviewed, and many more efforts to better get to know your needs, we’re proud to announce the culmination: The new Clio experience.
The new Clio experience is coming to your account in the next few weeks, and we’re willing to bet you’ll be impressed.
With over 220 improvements, a reengineered performance that makes Clio an order of magnitude faster, and an interface that has been designed to center around you in every way, the new Clio experience represents one of the biggest leaps forward in technology that the legal industry has seen to date. Use it, and managing a legal practice will be easier than you’ve ever thought possible.
Here’s a sneak peak at just a few of the specific improvements you’ll see:
- You’ll have the ability to automatically approve and apply trust transactions to relevant invoices.
- You’ll be able to apply payments in bulk.
- We’ve added the Global Create button from our mobile app to the Clio web app.
- We’ve done a thoughtful reinvention of Clio Matters.
So far, our early testers have given the new Clio experience some rave reviews.
The new UI makes better use of space allowing me to do and see more in a single screen. The buttons and drop-downs feel more intuitive, and the ability for customization is a welcomed touch.
– Kevin Vela, Vela Wood
It looks slicker, it’s faster, it’s intuitive for experienced users, the search results are more useful, and the parts of the interface you need most often are always there, with no scrolling. I think our lawyers and staff are going to be more efficient when they are using Clio than ever before. And with the new API capabilities connecting Clio to everything else we use in the cloud, I think our lawyers and staff will increasingly be using Clio without even having to log in. I’m excited about the possibilities.
– Jason Morris, Round Table Law.
We hope you’re as excited as we are. Keep an eye out for the new Clio experience in your account in the coming weeks!
