Jessica Yañez, Immigration Attorney, Yañez Immigration Law
Right from the beginning, Jessica Yañez was determined to do things differently. After working in two separate immigration firms, she decided to take a leap of faith and open her own solo practice. With her husband’s support, she opened Yañez Immigration Law in December 2012, with a focus on delivering a “different” firm experience. Jessica tackled this challenge with a two-pronged approach. First, she implemented a practice management solution to assist her in overcoming the day-to-day challenges that come with running a practice. Second, she created a motto for her firm to live by. Jessica based this motto off of three simple, yet powerful words, “Advocate, Innovate and Appreciate”.
Advocate
Jessica’s Greensboro, North Carolina firm was formed in December 2012 and focuses primarily on immigration which includes: permanent residence applications based on marriage or family, removal defense, visas for victims of crimes, and naturalization. “With immigration, you’re dealing with a moving target, multiple government agencies, and a process that can leave your client feeling very confused and stressed,” she explained. “At every point of the process, we are our clients advocates.”
For Jessica, being able to be her client’s advocate is very closely tied to innovation. With Clio as her practice management solution, her firm has a supercharged technology assistant.
Innovate
In the past Jessica had used immigration specific software, but states “I just didn’t see the benefit of this type of software for my firm.” For her, having a practice management solution that allowed her to take a customer-centric innovative approach was more important.
“I wanted our office to be user friendly,” she explains. Jessica has five other staff members—so it’s extremely important to her that everyone knows exactly what is going on with every case. “No matter who my client speaks to in the office, they’ll know exactly what is going on with their matter. It’s important our clients feel good about the process”. Clio gives Jessica the innovation needed to easily organize client information by matter and attach notes to the file so information is never misplaced or buried. “Clio makes my office look really good by ensuring that every member of my staff knows what is happening with every case at any given time.”
Jessica has also created her own workflow for new client intake using Clio. Jessica’s team is able to gather information about the case when the clients call her office and, through the use of Clio’s calendaring ability, book the appointment at the same time. “I am able to set a framework up before we even meet which is fantastic.” This allows Jessica to optimize her time with each and every client.
Appreciate
Jessica has put her heart and soul into her practice. “After working with clients for years you really get to know them and I want them to know that we wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for them.” It’s clear that Jessica has built something special and Clio has assisted her from day one. It’s helped her team stay organized and manage client interactions with ease.
